Course Requirements
What you need will vary by course, but a little preparation helps you get more from your training. Use this page as a general guide, then follow the specific instructions provided for your course or coaching session.
Before You Arrive

Idaho Gun School training is built around safe, productive learning. Being prepared allows us to spend more of your time developing practical skills and less time solving preventable equipment or range-day problems.
The requirements below apply as a general guide. Your specific course may have different firearm, ammunition, equipment or eligibility requirements. Always follow the information provided with your registration or pre-session instructions.
General Requirements
START WITH THE BASICS.
These expectations help create a safe and productive training environment for everyone.
Government-Issued ID
Bring a current government-issued photo ID when required for your course, range access or other training-related verification.
Alcohol & Impairing Substances
Do not attend firearms training while under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs or any substance that impairs your ability to safely participate.
Range-Day Preparation
WHAT TO BRING.
Your exact equipment list depends on the course. For live-fire training, plan around these core items unless your course instructions tell you otherwise.
Firearm & Ammunition
Bring the firearm and appropriate ammunition specified for your course. Make sure your firearm is in safe working condition before training. Ammunition type and quantity may vary by class.
Eye & Ear Protection
Appropriate eye and hearing protection are required for live-fire training. Electronic hearing protection can make it easier to hear coaching and range commands.
Food & Hydration
For longer courses, bring sufficient water along with any food or snacks you'll need. Course schedules and available breaks vary by training format and location.
Weather-Appropriate Clothing
Many live-fire sessions take place outdoors. Dress for the conditions and consider layers, appropriate footwear, sunscreen and other weather protection.
Firearms & Equipment
BRING GEAR THAT SUPPORTS SAFE TRAINING.
Equipment requirements depend on what we're training. Your course-specific information will identify anything additional you need.
Firearms
For courses requiring your own firearm, bring the firearm specified for that class in safe working condition. If you're attending private coaching and are unsure whether you have the right firearm or equipment, contact us before your session.
Ammunition
Bring the correct caliber and quantity specified for your training. Do not bring steel-core or penetrator rifle ammunition unless your course and training location specifically permit it. Range-specific ammunition restrictions may also apply.
Holsters
If your course involves holster work, bring a safe, serviceable holster appropriate for the firearm and training activity. Cross-draw and shoulder holsters are not permitted unless Idaho Gun School has specifically approved them for the training.
Rifles & Carbines
Courses involving rifles or carbines may require a suitable sling and other course-specific equipment. Check your registration information before arriving.
Don't buy gear just to satisfy a guess. If you're uncertain about a firearm, holster, ammunition or piece of equipment, contact us first. We'd rather help you make an informed decision than have you purchase something that isn't appropriate for your training.
Private Firearms Coaching
YOU DON'T NEED TO HAVE EVERYTHING FIGURED OUT.
Private coaching is different from arriving for a structured live-fire course. It's designed to meet you where you are.
If you're a newer firearm owner, returning to shooting after time away, or simply unsure whether your current firearm or equipment is right for you, that's something we can work through together.
